How One Turtle Turned Into An Entire Collection

Did you know that you can become a collector of something without even realizing it? For instance, one year I bought a unique turtle paperweight made of cobalt glass. My grandmother saw it and remembered that she had a brass turtle tucked away that someone had given her decades before. Since she had really had no use for it, she gave it to me to keep my purchase company. Enter my sister, who saw the pair of turtles, then presented me with a hand-carved teak turtle the following Christmas. And that’s how it happens, because for years after that, every time someone gave me a gift, it was turtle-related! Although I didn’t really have a passion for turtles before then, now I love looking for them whenever I poke around a flea market, antique store, or shop from catalogs and websites. I now own 19 different turtles from all over the country--guess that qualifies me as a collector!

Recently, I’ve been thinking about collecting cookie jars. I’ve seen so many unique ones that I would love to own and display. My plan is to buy just one, and if my theory holds, I’ll be getting dozens of them as gifts for every occasion over the next few years! Here are several cookie jars you might want to add to your collection (or mine--hint, hint!)
