We're Off To See The Wizard!

"The Greatest Picture in the History of Entertainment." That was the tagline when The Wizard of Oz was released in 1939 and it might hold true even today. The film will be 70 years old next month and it's still one of the best loved American movies of all time. And it was a special effects miracle! Where else could you see a massive tornado, a horse of a different color, flying monkeys and a house fall on a wicked witch? In 1940, it was nominated for six Oscars, including one for effects. It's also been translated into 40 languages and has influenced popular culture around the globe. That's quite an accomplishment for a movie made from a children's book.

With so many Wizard of Oz fans throughout the world, I figured there's probably someone in nearly everyone's life who would love to own a piece of movie history. So, in honor of the film's 70th anniversary, I thought I'd show you a few gift ideas that recapture the magic of Oz.

Given to Dorothy as a gift after her house lands on the Wicked Witch Of The East and frees the Munchkins from her awful grip, the magical ruby red slippers are an enduring favorite. Our quartz watch shows Dorothy traveling the Yellow Brick Road on the face while a gleaming pair of slippers dangles from the wristband. How about a solid metal doorstop that recreates the moment when the witch was crushed by the falling farmhouse? It's both whimsical and useful. For the desk, tabletop or shelf, our Dorothy figurine depicts Dorothy in the enchanted slippers and the base says, "Never underestimate the power of a great pair of shoes!" Now, those are words to live by!

For fans of the fallen witch's sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, we have a tote bag and mug that immortalize Margaret Hamilton's evil character. The tote bag shows the dreadful witch rubbing her palms together with the words "All In Good Time My Pretty, All in Good Time" printed in glitter ink below. The mug says "Wicked Witch" on one side and "I'm a wicked witch, what's your excuse?" on the other side.

Film cels are not only one-of-a-kind collectibles, they're a great way to remember our favorite movies. No two are exactly alike because each scene is hand selected from the actual 35mm movie film. This limited edition keepsake is mounted along with a photo from the movie in a black wood frame.

For the truest of die-hard Oz fans, we have a collection of stand ups to make a big as life statement. Each is over six feet tall, made of sturdy corrugated cardboard and printed with high resolution graphics. Choose from the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy's trio of traveling companions, Dorothy and Toto or Glinda, the good witch.

For birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas--or for no reason at all--these are some of my favorite gifts from the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City.
